A new passenger service is set to commence from Sri Lanka to India next month. The ferry service will connect the Kankesanthurai port in Jaffna and Puducherry in Tamil Nadu. The news was announced by Ports, Shipping and Civil Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva. The Minister said passenger transport services are also slated to commence from South India to Trincomalee and Colombo.
The Minister said the step is being taken due to the demands from the people for a passenger service connecting to the two countries.
