Former editor of the Ravaya newspaper, Victor Ivan says Sri Lanka is an uncouth, ignorant and insane country. Ivan made these comments at an event organised by the Asian Mirror. He presented several examples to prove his point.
Commenting on the various silly practices of Sri Lankan society Ivan said Sri Lankans have always imposed restrictions on themselves.
“For example, when you visit areas such as Akuressa, the river is full of crocodiles while small fenced bathing areas are erected for humans. This is a prime example of what an uncouth and ignorant country Sri Lanka is. The river is the best example of this. The whole river belongs to the crocodile and it can even eat humans. But a human is forbidden from attacking the crocodile and legal action is taken against the person. What an insane country! This is madness!” he said.
Pointing out that in Thailand, crocodile meat is a replacement for pork, Ivan said Crocodile meat is consumed in many countries.
“If at all farms should be set up. Beef must be consumed. In India, cows are treated as holy creatures. But last year India was the third highest exporter of beef in the world. They don't consume meat but they export it. But in Sri Lanka, we attempt to raise cattle for milk but not for meat. This is a crazy country,” he said.
