Cabinet approval has been granted to amend electricity tariff, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said.

The price hike, which stirred a controversy in politics, was taken up at the Cabinet meeting today.

The government has described the new amendment as a “cost-effective price formula”.

The Public Utilities commission of Sri Lanka, the regulator for such tarrif amendments, is yet to give approval to the price hike.
