Journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrama Summoned by CID Amidst Controversy Over Released Gold

Journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrama has been summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) following his revelation in an interview with former Presidential candidate Nagananda Kodithuwakku about the controversial release of seized gold.

Allegations have emerged from Nagananda Kodithuwakku, stating that the customs released the gold due to the intervention of Member of Parliament (MP) Vajira Abeywardena.

The customs had previously confiscated a valuable gold stock, worth one and a half crores, from a woman attempting to illegally carry it into Sri Lanka. However, following an investigation, the goods were released, raising suspicions about the circumstances of the release and the alleged involvement of MP Vajira Abeywardena.

The situation has garnered significant attention, leading to the summoning of journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrama by the CID to provide further information on the matter.
