Anura Dissanayake, the Colombo District Member of the National People's Power, brought attention to alleged malpractices in the conduct of examinations at Wayamba University, claiming that over fifteen students had left the institution without completing their degrees as a result.

Dissanayake highlighted a specific incident where the results of a group of students who had taken their final examinations were mistakenly withheld, while those who did not appear for the exam received results in error. The parliamentarian revealed that after reporting the issue to the university's governing authority, 29 third-year students were erroneously named as ineligible to continue studying.

Furthermore, Dissanayake raised concerns about what he deemed as unfair treatment towards students in the Faculty of Technology at Wayamba University. He pointed out that the requirement for students to have an overall GPA value exceeding 2+ to advance to the third year had resulted in many students being treated unjustly.

In response to these allegations, Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha stated that the University Grants Commission (UGC) has addressed the issue and has been requested to conduct a thorough examination to prevent similar incidents in the future. The Minister assured that the UGC would communicate the steps that can be taken to rectify the situation and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
