Former MP Mujibur Rahuman Admitted to Hospital Following Police Attack on SJB Protest Rally

Former Member of Parliament (MP) Mujibur Rahuman has been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital following the police attack on the protest rally organized by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) in Colombo. According to a spokesman from the SJB, Rahuman was admitted due to high blood pressure and breathing difficulties resulting from the events of the rally.

The protest, which saw a significant turnout led by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and numerous other MPs, was met with police action near the Vihara Mahadevi Park. Rahuman's hospitalization underscores the physical toll of the police intervention on participants of the rally.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa visited Rahuman at the Colombo National Hospital, expressing concern and solidarity. Premadasa condemned the police attack and expressed dismay at the injuries sustained by Rahuman and others as a result of the altercation.

Premadasa further stated that several other individuals had suffered injuries during the police intervention, highlighting the severity of the situation and the need for accountability. The Opposition Leader called for an immediate investigation into the police's handling of the protest rally and urged authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens exercising their democratic rights.
