Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the National People's Power (NPP) party, embarked on his inaugural official visit to India, commencing his diplomatic engagement with a high-level meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar. This significant milestone marks the first time that the leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) party has received an official invitation from Delhi, signifying a new chapter in bilateral relations between India and Sri Lanka.
The meeting, which lasted for nearly an hour, centered on discussions surrounding bilateral relations and avenues for cooperation between the two neighboring nations. Dr. Jaishankar underscored the importance of strengthening ties between India and Sri Lanka, emphasizing the shared history, culture, and strategic interests that bind the two countries together.
During the talks, both leaders exchanged views on key issues of mutual concern, including trade, security, and regional stability. They also explored opportunities for enhancing cooperation in areas such as economic development, infrastructure, and people-to-people exchanges.
