Heavy Rains Expected Across Sri Lanka Today

 

The Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast for heavy rains in various parts of Sri Lanka today. Showers or thundershowers are anticipated in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-western provinces, as well as Galle and Matara districts, after 2:00 p.m. Additionally, the Uva province and Anuradhapura district may experience showers or thundershowers during the afternoon or night. Coastal areas from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo may see a few showers in the morning.

Expect fairly heavy showers, with accumulations exceeding 50 mm, in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as Galle and Matara districts. Misty conditions may also prevail in certain areas of the Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces during the morning hours.

In the sea areas off the coast from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle, showers or thundershowers are predicted in several places. Winds will be southwesterly or variable, with speeds ranging from 20 to 30 kmph. While sea conditions around the island are expected to be slight, temporary strong gusty winds and very rough seas are possible during thundershowers.
