Government Announces Seizure of 112 Illegally Imported Vehicles

 

State Minister of Finance, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, revealed that the Ministry of Finance is set to seize 112 vehicles that were unlawfully brought into Sri Lanka over the past several years.
These vehicles, with a collective value of Rs. 7 billion, were reportedly smuggled into the country between 2015 and 2022. The announcement came following the identification of the illicitly imported vehicles by the Fraud and Corruption Investigation Commission. State Minister Siyambalapitiya emphasized that measures will be taken to retrieve these vehicles from their current owners.
He underscored the importance of buyers ensuring the legality of imported vehicles, placing responsibility on them for verifying the proper importation procedures.
