Body of Missing Youth Found Burned in Madampe; Suspect Surrenders to Court

 

 

The body of Susitha Jayawansa, a 31-year-old resident of Kabalewa area in Kuliyapitiya, who had been missing since April 22, was discovered torched and dumped in a forest area in Madampe today.
Police confirmed that Jayawansa had been murdered after launching an investigation into his disappearance following a visit to his girlfriend's house.
Investigations revealed that Jayawansa had been assaulted by his girlfriend's father and two other individuals, identified as masons.

The two masons, who confessed to their involvement, revealed that the father of Jayawansa's girlfriend ordered them to take him to the house of a former Provincial Council member. Subsequently, the main suspect in Jayawansa's disappearance surrendered to the court yesterday through his attorneys.

The Kuliyapitiya Magistrate, Randika Lakmal, granted bail to the suspect, Sujith Fernando, also known as 'Singithi', on two personal bails of Rs. 500,000 each.

Other suspects, including the girlfriend's family members, have reportedly fled the area.
The investigation into Jayawansa's murder is ongoing.
