University Non-Academic Staff Strike Reaches Day 46

The strike by non-academic staff at universities has entered its 46th day, primarily driven by demands to address wage disparities. This strike has disrupted weekend courses, affecting students and faculty alike.

Dhammika S. Priyantha, Chairman of the Joint Committee of University Trade Unions, indicated that a crucial decision on the strike's continuation will follow a discussion with Professor Sampath Amaratunga, Chairman of the University Grants Commission, scheduled for Tuesday.

In parallel, trade union actions by government surveyors and engineers of the Road Development Authority continue unabated, further highlighting the widespread unrest among public sector employees.
