Two Supreme Court Judges Recuse Themselves from Diana Gamage Contempt Petition

Two Supreme Court judges have recused themselves from considering the contempt of court petition filed against former State Minister Diana Gamage. The petition, submitted by former Weligama Urban Council chairman Rehan Jayawickrema, accuses Gamage of contempt for remarks made during a press conference after the Supreme Court's ruling that disqualified her from serving as a Member of Parliament.

The case was reviewed by a three-member Supreme Court bench consisting of Justices Preethi Padman Surasena, Kumuduni Wickremasinghe, and Janak De Silva on June 26. Justices De Silva and Wickremasinghe announced their recusal from the case.

The Supreme Court has rescheduled the petition for August 5.
