Teachers and principals across the country are continuing their strike today, following yesterday's clash with police in Colombo. The trade unions initiated the strike by calling in sick leave on June 26, citing multiple demands.
The protest began near the Colombo Fort Railway Station and escalated as participants attempted to march toward the Presidential Secretariat. Police intervened using tear gas and water cannons near the Lotus Roundabout to disperse the demonstrators.
The strike has significantly disrupted educational activities and Many schools reported low attendance, with some students sent home due to inaccessible premises.
The Ministry of Education has confirmed that all government schools will operate as usual today.
