President Ranil Wickramasinghe has issued an Extraordinary Gazette Notification, officially declaring public transportation an essential service.

This mandate encompasses passenger and goods transport services by both road and rail.
Additionally, the maintenance of roads, bridges, culverts, and railway lines is now considered crucial to ensure the seamless operation of the nation’s transportation infrastructure.
