Three Drowning Incidents Reported on Saturday, Including Two Children

 

On Saturday, June 29, three separate drowning incidents were reported across the country, involving two children.

In Mankulam, a 14-year-old child went missing after apparently drowning in the Iranamadu tank. The incident occurred when five schoolchildren went to bathe in the tank on Saturday afternoon. A search operation involving Sri Lanka Navy divers and local residents has been launched to locate the missing child.

In the Pelana area of Weligama, a 56-year-old man drowned while sea bathing. His body was recovered on Saturday night after washing ashore on Weligama beach. The victim has been identified as a carpenter from Wedamullawatta, Ramboda.

In Kandana, a 5-year-old child drowned while bathing in a swimming pool in the North Batagoda area. The child, a resident of Dematagoda in Colombo, was initially admitted to Ja-ela hospital by his father and later transferred to Ragama Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Kandana Police are conducting further investigations into this incident.
