Clearance of Imported Goods Delayed Due to Trade Union Action

Customs officials have launched a work-to-rule campaign, causing significant delays in the clearance of imported goods. This action, initiated on Tuesday, is in response to proposed amendments to the Customs Ordinance.

Customs Spokesman Seevali Arukgoda confirmed the delays, attributing them to the ongoing protest by Customs officials.
Amila Sanjeewa, President of the Customs Officers' Association, stated that the trade union members plan to escalate their action with a strike on Thursday and Friday. The strike is a direct protest against the proposed Revenue Authority Bill.
