Businessman and Member of Parliament Dhammika Perera has announced his readiness to contest the upcoming Presidential Election. Speaking at the opening of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Trade Union office at Rosmead Place, Colombo 7, Perera said that the decision now rests with the SLPP.

In the presence of SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam, Dammika Perera said his preparedness for the candidacy and highlighted his efforts towards winning the  election and addressing economic recovery. "I am awaiting the decision of the party. I am also engaging in the necessary work to secure a win at the election. In addition, I am also working on the program to recover the economy," he stated.

The SLPP's decision on their presidential candidate is expected later this year.
