SLAF Sports Men and Women Honored at Air Force Colour Awards Ceremony

 

The Air Force Colour Awards Ceremony for 2022-2023 took place on July 5, 2024, at the Eagle's Lakeside Banquet and Convention Hall. The event, graced by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, General Kamal Guneratne (Retd) and his wife Mrs. Chitrani Guneratne, celebrated the achievements of sports personalities within the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF).

This  event recognized 355 nominees across 37 sports disciplines, awarding the prestigious SLAF Colours. Additionally, 61 exceptional athletes received the Golden Eagle Awards for their outstanding performances during the review period.

The ceremony has a rich history, with the first awards held in 1964. The evening honored past and present athletes, with  awards including the Group Captain Roger Weerasinghe Memorial Trophy, the Flight Lieutenant Priya Abeyweeragunawardana Memorial Trophy, and the Flight Lieutenant A Vartharasa Memorial Trophy.

SLAF Academy China Bay and SLAF Station Colombo were awarded the Vernon Rajapaksha Trophy for the Best Unit in Sports for 2022 and 2023, respectively. The President Air Force Sports Council Trophy honored the Women’s Boxing team (2022), Women’s Cricket team (2023), Men’s Volleyball team (2022), and Men’s Water Polo team (2023).

The ceremony concluded with an address by General Guneratne, appreciating the dedication and achievements of the SLAF sportsmen and women.
