Colombo High Court to Consider Hirunika Premachandra's Bail Application on July 15

The Colombo High Court has scheduled former Member of Parliament Hirunika Premachandra's bail application for consideration on July 15. This decision was made by High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja after the Attorney General submitted objections to the bail request on July 11.

Premachandra, who recently appealed to the Appeals Court to overturn a verdict sentencing her to three years of rigorous imprisonment, is seeking acquittal from the charges. Following the appeal, her lawyers filed a bail application with the Colombo High Court.

The former Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) parliamentarian was convicted of abducting a youth in Dematagoda on December 21, 2015, and wrongfully detaining him. Found guilty on 18 charges, Premachandra was fined Rs. 20,000 per charge, with an additional six months' imprisonment for each fine defaulted.
