Presidential Scholarship Awards to Commence at District Level Today

The Presidential Scholarship award for A-Level students and students from Grade 1 to 11 from low-income families will commence at the district level today, July 12. Following the distribution in the Colombo district on June 19 under the patronage of President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Temple Trees, the scholarship distribution will now extend to the remaining 24 districts across the country.

Today, selected students in the Hambantota district will receive their scholarships. Distributions will continue in the Badulla, Matale, and Jaffna districts on July 13, Kilinochchi district on July 14, Gampaha district on July 16 and 17, and Galle and Anuradhapura districts on July 15, as stated by the President’s Media Division.

Further distributions are scheduled for Vavuniya, Batticaloa, Ratnapura, Kegalle, and Nuwara Eliya districts on July 16, followed by Kalutara, Mannar, Ampara, Kurunegala, and Kandy districts on July 17. The process will continue on July 18 in Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, and Polonnaruwa districts, and conclude with Monaragala and Matara districts on July 19, and Puttalam district on July 22.

The awards will be distributed under the patronage of District Secretaries and in coordination with zonal education offices and principals. Initially, only a portion of the scholarship recipients will be invited to the award ceremonies. The list of selected scholarship winners from each school at the education zone level across all districts will be published on the official Facebook page of the President’s Fund.

Scholarships for A-Level students are set at Rs. 6000 per month for 24 months, with 6000 scholarship winners already selected—60 students from each of the 100 zonal offices. Additionally, scholarships of Rs. 6000 per month will be provided to students until they appear for the G.C.E. A-Level examination.

However, it has been noted that some schools have not yet submitted applications for the scholarship program, which offers Rs. 3000 per month for 12 months to selected students from Grade 1 to 11. Principals of such schools have been instructed to submit applications promptly. A list of schools that have not applied for scholarships has been distributed to all zonal education directors. The President’s Fund urges parents and students to address this issue by submitting the necessary applications to ensure no one is excluded during this challenging period.

President Wickremesinghe highlighted that no child should miss out on educational opportunities due to financial constraints, and has instructed schools to apply for these scholarships promptly.
