Supreme Court Orders Maithripala Sirisena to Complete Compensation Payments to Easter Attack Victims

The Supreme Court has ordered that former President Maithripala Sirisena, along with former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara and former Chief of State Intelligence Service (SIS) Nilantha Jayawardena, must complete their compensation payments to the victims of the 2019 Easter Sunday bomb attacks by August 30, 2024.

The seven-member judge panel said that failure to meet this deadline will result in contempt of court charges against the individuals, with proceedings set to commence before September 20, 2024.
