The Election Commission is set to gain the authority to announce the date for the upcoming presidential election after midnight tonight. Chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake has indicated that the date will be disclosed before the end of the month.

A special news conference will be held this morning under his chairmanship. Additionally, officials from the Ministry of Finance are scheduled to meet with the Election Commission tomorrow to discuss funding and other logistical matters related to the election.

The Ministry of Finance has previously announced an allocation of Rs. 10 billion for the presidential election, with a senior spokesperson confirming that funds are ready to be released as needed.
