UK to Return Colonial-Era Antiquities Including Tara Statue to Sri Lanka

The UK is set to repatriate several colonial-era antiquities to Sri Lanka, including the notable statue of Tara. This initiative was confirmed by Buddhasasana, Religious, and Cultural Affairs Minister Vidura Wickramanayake. Speaking at a press conference themed "Collective Path to a Stable Country" held at the Presidential Media Centre, Wickramanayake highlighted ongoing efforts to retrieve ancient treasures taken during the colonial period.

Minister Wickramanayake highlighted the importance of cultural pride and education tailored to Sri Lankan heritage. He mentioned the ministry's commitment to fostering a sense of national pride among citizens and addressing the country's current economic challenges. Additionally, he announced the confirmation of appointments for over a thousand individuals who have served in local government institutions, refuting claims that this move was politically motivated.
