UNESCO Chief Celebrates 75 Years of Sri Lankan Membership

The Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Audrey Azoulay, is on an official visit to Sri Lanka to mark the 75th anniversary of the country’s membership in the organization.

During the celebratory event, Azoulay praised Sri Lanka's long-standing engagement with UNESCO. “When I look at the history of cooperation between Sri Lanka and UNESCO, I am struck by your country’s remarkable engagement in our organization,” she said. Azoulay highlighted Sri Lanka's election to UNESCO's Executive Board in 1968, a position the country still holds today, playing a vital role in both local activities and global strategy development.

During her visit, which continues until the 19th, Azoulay met with President Ranil Wickremesinghe and is scheduled to meet with several other leaders.
