Police have yet to arrested the gunmen responsible for the murder of businessman Surendra Wasantha Perera, known as "Club Wasantha," according to Police Media Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa.
DIG Thalduwa revealed that the investigation is ongoing, with police suspecting that the operation to murder the businessman was orchestrated from overseas. Eight to ten police units are involved in the investigation, and several individuals have been arrested and released due to insufficient evidence.
Addressing alleged connections between Club Wasantha and the family of tattoo shop owner Dulan Sanjula, Thalduwa stated that no links have been established. However, he mentioned that Sanjula's mother was previously arrested for drug peddling in the Elpitiya Police Division and faces two court cases.
Thalduwa refuted claims that the gunmen were military personnel from the Elpitiya army camp and confirmed that there is no evidence suggesting the gunmen have fled the country. He also urged media outlets to report responsibly to avoid hindering the investigation with baseless reports.
