The Ministry of Health has received nine refrigerated trucks from UNICEF, funded by the Government of Japan, to enhance vaccine delivery across Sri Lanka.
The handover ceremony, attended by Japanese Ambassador Mizukoshi Hideaki, Acting UNICEF Representative Begoña Arellano, and Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, highlighted the importance of these trucks in improving immunization services.

Dr. Pathirana expressed gratitude for the support, stating that the trucks will significantly improve the safe and timely transportation of vaccines. These trucks are part of Japan's $3 million contribution, which has also funded cold chain equipment and temperature monitors since 2021.

Ambassador Mizukoshi highlighted Japan’s commitment to Sri Lanka's public health, noting that the trucks will ensure vaccines reach all communities.
Acting UNICEF Representative Arellano added that the trucks would help ensure that every child in Sri Lanka receives necessary vaccines under appropriate conditions, reinforcing the collaboration between Japan, UNICEF, and the Ministry of Health in safeguarding children's health.
