US Vice-President Kamala Harris launched her White House campaign with a strong offensive against Donald Trump, framing November's election as a contest between her prosecutorial experience and Trump's criminal record. Addressing about 3,000 supporters in Wisconsin, Harris compared Trump to the fraudsters she prosecuted as California's attorney general.
"I took on perpetrators of all kinds,” Harris said. “Predators who abused women. Fraudsters who ripped off consumers. Cheaters who broke the rules for their own gain. So hear me when I say I know Donald Trump's type." Her remarks energized the crowd, who responded with chants of "Kamala! Kamala!" and "lock him up," echoing a chant used at Trump rallies against Hillary Clinton.
Trump responded by attacking Harris's record on border issues and labeling her "Lyin’ Kamala" on social media. Harris's rally came shortly after she secured the majority of Democratic delegates, following President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the race and his endorsement of her. The Harris campaign raised over $100 million in the 36 hours following Biden's exit.
