A police constable has been interdicted after a viral video surfaced allegedly showing him attempting to plant cannabis in a vehicle during a traffic stop in Kollupitiya.

The incident involved a car stopped by the constable, who then  tried to place cannabis inside the vehicle. Passengers in the car accused the officer of framing them to extort money.

The video, recorded on a mobile phone, was widely shared on social media, leading to a police investigation. The constable faced an inquiry and was interdicted for betel chewing while in uniform and improperly conducting the vehicle search without the driver or passengers present.
