Vehicle Import Restrictions to Ease Starting August

Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe said that vehicle import restrictions will be eased beginning in August. Initially, the imports will focus on vehicles essential for business and transportation.

Semasinghe said that while the government aims to avoid returning to strict import restrictions, they plan a phased approach to easing these limitations. "We will first permit imports for business and transportation needs. By the first quarter of 2025, we expect to allow vehicle imports for private use," he stated.
