The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the importation of eggs to stabilize prices and ensure sufficient supply for the upcoming Christmas and Ramadan seasons. The decision, dated March 18, 2024, aims to support the bakery industry, particularly for products like cakes.

So far, the Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation has imported 224 million eggs. Approximately 95% of these have been distributed to consumers at an affordable price of Rs. 37 through Lanka Sathosa outlets. The import period concluded on April 30, 2024.
