SJB Unveils National Digitization Policy

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has launched its National Digitization policy, which aims to propel Sri Lanka into the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and beyond Information Technology (IT). The policy was unveiled by the Leader of the Opposition, Sajith Premadasa, in Colombo this week, with key figures such as Parliamentarians Eran Wickramaratne and Professor G.L. Pieris in attendance.

MP Eran Wickramaratne, a former chairman of the ICTA in Sri Lanka, led the team of experts behind the policy. He highlighted the critical need for Sri Lanka to catch up with global technological advancements, noting that the country is currently two decades behind in IT. The policy prioritizes digital literacy as essential for economic development, aiming to harness Sri Lanka's geographical advantages and human resources to create a digitally literate workforce.

He highlighted the importance of high-speed internet access across the country and the need for private sector participation to achieve the policy's goals. He also called for legal reforms to address emerging technological challenges, particularly in the field of AI.
