The Central Environment Authority (CEA) has called on devotees participating in the Kandy Esala Perahera to responsibly dispose of waste during the event. According to CEA Director General Hemantha Jayasinghe, the Perahera generates approximately three tons of polythene, plastic, and other solid waste daily.
To address this, a comprehensive waste management program has been in place for several years, involving various institutions. Jayasinghe requested participants to support environmental protection efforts by using designated waste disposal sites and reducing the use of non-biodegradable materials.
