The passenger ferry service between Nagapattinam, India, and Jaffna, Sri Lanka, is set to resume on August.
The service, operated by IndSri Ferry Service Private Ltd, will run between Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu and Kankesanthurai in Jaffna.
The ferry, named ‘Sivagangai,’ will be deployed for this route, with online bookings opening at midnight on August 12. The service was initially planned to operate between Karaikal and Kankesanthurai but was rerouted to Nagapattinam due to safety concerns at Karaikal port, which is focused on industrial shipments.
The ferry service, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after a trial run in October 2023, had been suspended due to unfavorable weather conditions. The ‘Sivagangai’ can accommodate 150 passengers and 30 crew members, with ticket prices set at INR 6,000.
