The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather alert for several regions in Sri Lanka, predicting heavy rainfall and strong winds. Showers or thundershowers are expected throughout the day in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts, with some areas likely to experience heavy downpours exceeding 50 mm.
Other parts of the island, including the central hills and the North-western, Ampara, Monaragala, and Hambantota districts, may also experience strong winds ranging from 30-40 kmph, with gusts potentially reaching up to 55 kmph.
In coastal regions, particularly from Colombo to Hambantota via Galle, sea conditions are expected to be rough, with strong gusty winds and very rough seas predicted during thundershowers.
