The Government of Sri Lanka has expressed strong approval of Canada’s decision to retain the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on its list of terrorist entities. The LTTE, a Tamil militant organization, has been listed as a terrorist group in Canada since April 2006.
In a recent statement, Sri Lanka's Foreign Ministry highlighted that Canada’s decision followed a rigorous review process, which confirmed that the LTTE’s international fundraising and procurement networks remain active. The review also noted that the World Tamil Movement (WTM) continues to support the LTTE's activities through fundraising efforts.
This decision is the third consecutive international ban on the LTTE, with similar actions taken by India, the European Union, and the United Kingdom in recent years.
