The basic salary for public service employees will rise by at least 24% for primary-level positions, with increases ranging from 24% to 50% for other government officials, depending on fiscal conditions, according to Udaya R. Seneviratne, Chairman of the Expert Committee on Public Service Salary Disparities. 

In addition, a cost of living allowance of Rs. 25,000 will be maintained for three years starting January 2025.
The salary adjustments, approved by the Cabinet and Treasury, aim to address salary disparities and respond to past trade union protests.
