Mahinda Deshapriya, former Chairman of the Election Commission, has commented on the Supreme Court’s recent ruling regarding the postponement of the Local Government Elections.
Deshapriya criticized the court’s decision as "delayed justice," arguing that earlier intervention could have allowed the elections to be held by now.
He confirmed that the Local Government Elections cannot occur before the upcoming Presidential Poll but said that it is possible for the Election Commission to schedule them after the Presidential Election, within the year.
