Additional Solicitor General Lakmini Girihagama accused Dr. Kapila Wickramanayake, the former Director of the Medical Supply Division, of misleading the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Girihagama asserted that Wickramanayake’s actions contributed to the removal of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation of Sri Lanka's quality control role, resulting in the importation of substandard drugs.
This lapse has reportedly endangered the lives of patients with neurological and cancer conditions, with only two out of 25 drug supply organizations meeting quality standards under the Indian Credit Line.
Wickramanayake is currently out on bail as the case proceeds.
