The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a significant salary increase for public sector employees, effective January 1, 2025. The increase, based on recommendations from the Presidential Expert Committee led by Udaya R. Seneviratne, will see basic salaries rise by at least 24% for the lowest ranks, with increases ranging up to over 50% for various grades.
Specific adjustments include increases of Rs.5,450 for Grade III Office Employees and up to Rs.39,595 for Grade I Principal’s Service. Additionally, police salaries will see notable rises, with Police Constables getting Rs.10,704 more and Chief Inspectors receiving an increase of Rs.23,685.
The salary adjustments will also apply to public corporations, boards, statutory bodies, universities, and the armed forces. Furthermore, it has been recommended to double annual salary increment values for government employees.
