Independent Presidential Candidate and current President Ranil Wickremesinghe has called on the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP)-led National People’s Power (NPP) to remove their proposals for increasing public sector salaries from their election manifestos. He said that the necessary wage adjustments have already been implemented.

Reflecting on his achievements, president highlighted that, despite initial skepticism, he has delivered on his promises, including the recent wage increases.
He defended his administration’s tough economic decisions, which he claimed were essential to stabilizing the economy and safeguarding the currency.

The President said that without these measures, Sri Lanka could have faced a situation akin to Greece’s financial crisis. He also pointed to the 2023 relief program and 2024 salary allowances as steps taken to support government employees.
