Indian Businessman Arrested for Smuggling Gold

A 29-year-old Indian businessman was detained by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) for attempting to smuggle over 10 kilograms of gold out of Sri Lanka.

The gold, valued at approximately Rs. 30 million, was hidden in the pocket of his trousers. The suspect, a frequent traveler, was arrested with nine gold biscuits, each weighing 1 kilogram and 158 grams, as well as three small pieces of gold while moving from the departure terminal to the immigration area.
