Hambantota Port Sees Increase in Vessel Arrivals for Repairs and Layups

 Hambantota International Port (HIP) has reported a significant increase in vessel arrivals for repairs and layups in 2024, marking a 53% rise from the same period last year. Between January and August 2024, HIP hosted 23 vessels, up from 15 in the previous year.

In August alone, HIP managed the completion of repairs on the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel “Svetah Venetia,” which underwent extensive maintenance, including turret pipeline and blow thruster installations. The vessel departed on August 21 after a seven-month layup.

Additionally, the M.V. ‘Ram Commander’ underwent short-term repairs from August 3 to 22, receiving essential deck work by Harbour Serve Pvt. Ltd. The bulk carrier “Archon Gabriel” arrived on August 26 for hydraulic system repairs and left on September 3, with maintenance conducted by CIAP Limited.
