Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando, Director of Communications for the Archdiocese of Colombo, has raised concerns over the disappearance of the Presidential Commission report investigating the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks. Speaking at an event at the BMICH on Tuesday, he said that President Ranil Wickremesinghe had received the report before it was transferred to the Attorney General's Department, but it has since gone missing.
Fr. Gamini alleged that the report contained crucial evidence that could implicate several politicians, suggesting that proper investigation by the current government could lead to arrests. He identified 'Abuhind,' who had been in communication with the attack's leader, Zahran, as a key figure in the incident.
Additionally, he noted that Ravi Seneviratne, the newly appointed Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, possesses relevant information regarding the attacks.
Two special committees were established under Ranil Wickremesinghe's administration to investigate the attacks and related allegations. The first, chaired by retired Supreme Court Judge S.I. Imam, submitted its report on June 25, 2024. The second, led by retired judge A.N.J. Alwis, focused on the failures of intelligence agencies and delivered its findings on September 14, 2024.
