Investigation Launched After Young Woman's Death Raises Concerns Over Vaccine Safety

A special committee has been established to investigate the death of a 24-year-old woman at Wijaya Kumaratunga Memorial Hospital in Seeduwa, which her family alleges was linked to an adverse reaction to a vaccine.

Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Secretary of the Ministry of Health, said that the committee will be led by a Deputy Director General. The National Medicines Regulatory Authority has also requested a report on the vaccine administered to the woman.

The patient was admitted on October 2 after experiencing severe stomach acidity. Her condition reportedly deteriorated, leading her parents to seek urgent medical care.
