Heavy Showers Over 100mm Expected in Parts of the Island

The Meteorology Department says that heavy showers exceeding 100 mm are anticipated in various regions of the island due to the influence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone. This weather phenomenon occurs where winds from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres meet.

Showers and thundershowers are expected across most areas during the afternoon and night. Morning rain is also forecast for the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as the districts of Galle, Matara, Mannar, and Mullaitivu.
