Heavy Rains and Strong Winds to Lacerate South-Western Sri Lanka

South-western Sri Lanka is bracing for persistent heavy rains and strong winds due to an atmospheric disturbance affecting the region. Showers and thundershowers are expected across the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, North-western, and Central provinces, with certain areas, particularly in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, likely to receive over 150mm of rain.

Winds could reach speeds of 40-50 km/h in the affected provinces. In coastal areas from Mannar to Pottuvil, wind speeds may escalate to between 55-65 km/h.

Sea conditions will also be rough, especially from Colombo to Hambantota, where wave heights may reach 2.5–3.0 meters.
