Sri Lankan Peacekeepers Injured in Lebanon

The Israeli Foreign Ministry has expressed concern over the injuries sustained by two Sri Lankan peacekeepers in southern Lebanon. This statement came from Sri Lanka's Diplomatic Mission in Israel, following an incident involving an Israeli airstrike on a village in Naqoura.

Ambassador Hagai Dikan, Deputy Director General of the Asia Pacific Division at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, assured that a thorough investigation is underway. The peacekeepers, serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), reportedly suffered minor injuries.

According to a military spokesperson, the airstrike targeted a nearby village and not the UN command center, although damage was reported at the site. The National News Agency of Lebanon stated that an artillery shell targeted the entrance of the UNIFIL command center, injuring Sri Lankan soldiers.

The UN has reiterated the importance of ensuring the safety of its personnel, emphasizing that any attack on peacekeepers is a serious violation of international law.
