The Kandy District Crime Investigation Unit arrested 130 Chinese nationals, including 22 women, during a raid on a five-star hotel in Kundasale over the weekend.
The police reported that several suspects fled the scene, evading capture. During the operation, police seized 123 laptops, 206 smartphones, 20 desktop computers, and various other equipment linked to online fraud.
Investigations revealed that the group occupied 47 hotel rooms and failed to provide satisfactory explanations for their stay. The suspects were scheduled to appear before the Theldeniya magistrate yesterday.
The raid was conducted under the direction of OIC Crime Investigation Branch IP Thilak Samaranayake, following orders from SSP Anuruddha Bandaranayaka and Senior DIG Lalith Pathinayake.
