New Cabinet to Reevaluate Adani Wind Power Deal

The Attorney General informed the Supreme Court today that the new Cabinet has decided to reassess the Adani Wind Power Project in Mannar. This announcement came during the hearing of fundamental rights petitions filed by the Wildlife and Nature Protection Society, the Centre for Environmental Justice, and other groups challenging the Cabinet's previous approval of the project.

During the session before a five-judge bench, Deputy Solicitor General Dr. Avanthi Perera revealed that the reassessment is scheduled for November 7th. It will focus on the terms of the agreement with India’s Adani Group and address the concerns raised in the petitions.

Dr. Perera requested a future court date for the Cabinet’s final decision, which is expected post-general elections. The court agreed to allow petitioners to amend their filings to include the new Cabinet members as respondents. It also ordered that any government observations regarding the project be submitted by January 31st.
