The Deputy Commissioner of the Eastern Province Revenue Department has been arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of 200,000 rupees.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption reported that the bribe was accepted in connection with a property sale in Sathurukondan, Batticaloa, valued at 10 million rupees. The official allegedly took the payment to facilitate the transaction while bypassing the necessary stamp duty.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court soon.
